Accurate Miniatures B-25
02/26/11 at 17:01:37

Hey guys. I started this one a couple of weeks ago for a friend who is transferring soon. I couldn't decide what to build then as I was looking at my stash, i noticed this one and got an idea. His last name is Mitchell so I went from there. This will be done in Navy Camo.

Couple of interior shots:
...

...

...

Upper and lower turrets:

...

...

The 'pit:
...

...

The nose pieces and other stuff:
...

And these beautiful decals from Bombshell Decals:
...

...

...

I had never heard of them before until I was searching around. I would highly recommend checking out their site. Not a huge selection but what they offer is very nice. They are printed on Cartograph so I have high hopes.

I did only the minimum of detail painting since pretty all of it will be invisible when she is all closed up. Just on the off chance someone grabs a flashlight and magnifying glass, they will see a little something.

Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome

Looking good Jeff, I built one of AM's B-25's a while back, remember to get some weight in the front so she's not a tail sitter and watch the front gear leg........I broke that sob off twice!!!!

Thanks, Tom. The kit supplied weights should be enough and as far as the nose gear goes, the instructions all but come right and say that it is very fragile so it will be going on at the last possible moment.

Thanks guys. Turns out this one doesn't have the nose weights included with the kit. I have the ones that came with my B-25 C/D but I decided to hang on to those and get creative instead.

...

I ended up flattening some lead fishing weights in a vice and adding those. They actually feel a little heavier. One guy on Modeling Madness added weight behind the engine nacells so I think I will do that too for good measure.

Waiting until the end to add the nose gear was a no-go since there is no way to add it after the fuselage is buttoned up.

Jeff, it looks good.  I broke the nose gear on mine even though I had a brace taped to it.

Be careful with the fit of the bulkhead that goes in front of the instrument panel, it will interfere with the fit of the nose later on if it is not flush with the fuselage front.  I had to do some filling around the front of the nose gear after I installed the nose, it was better to do that than have a step at the top where the transparency fits.  Maybe yours will fit better.  I still haven't finished mine.

Thanks, John. I did a lot of test fitting to make sure the weights wouldn't be in the way so I am good to go on that end. I was following the online build up on Accurate Miniatures website (which apparently no longer exists. The website I mean) And the guy was saying to make sure you place the bulkhead as far back as it will go.

Thanks again.

You and Paul are really making me want to do a PBJ!

When I did my 25 a couple years ago, I used the included weights. Just barely enough, the nose wheel barely touches the ground, the tiniest bump and she's on her tail. For most twins, I put pennies in the nacelles....good weight and cheap too!!!!

Well mine will be finished today and no special sqdrn markings. Mostly fictitious, but the colors are near to the one at the NAB in Pensacola that I looked at on some obscure website.

Jeff what scale is that plane? It looks to be 72 scale. Really nice and again much better looking than my hand brushed jobbie. Maybe we can get Guy to put stars or roundels on his next project but some how I doubt that Gotha will look as keen.

That 25 is my second to the last kit in my stash and when I finish the Macchi 205 Veltro I have I am going to have to start pinching pinnies and bugging Linda for some funds.

Yesterday she told me I need something more challenging. Now I wonder what ever did she mean? So I am looking into a Dora 9 Or the Pacific Coast models 152 H and an engine kit with a new cockpit and PE.
(man I hate PE)

Yea I have been window shopping and I would like to do that P-61 or the Revell B-24 and now Ill have to make room on the wall and get some reliable source for air....

FERMIS- That penny idea is brilliant. I'm going to do that.

Paul- It's 1/48 scale

I'm going to assemble the wings and clean up the seams on the fuselage tonight. three weeks from today is my deadline so I need to do a little each day to avoid a "sprint to the finish" so to speak.
