I've wondered about spraying those paints but didn't want to take a chance of gumming up the brush.  What are you using to thin it with?

Amazing !!!

Have you attached the upper wing?  To follow Rob's question about rigging...how and with what?

So many questions.
I thin the Delta paint with water and a drop of flow aid. Goes through the airbrush just fine. I used these paints for the flesh on my Beer Babe a few years ago without any problem.
...

Rigging, not sure yet. I have some of that stretchy rigging material but it is kind of two dimensional. Might end up with invisible thread painted. Still thinking about it.

Top wing is just set on the jig right now. Still have to verify wing position with the data file info before locking it in place. Working on the main supports right now.

Probably should have done the Beer Babe pic last. No one made it this far in the post did they?

Sorry Phil but it's like 30,000 pounds of bananas heading for the Lackawanna River (who knows where that comes from?) you just can't stop the inevitable.

The upper wing is still not attached but the main struts are in place. I've decided to use easy line to rig this one with and hope it looks okay in the end.

I'm still jealous of the jig.  One of these days......

Are you going to rig this before doing the nose art or has that plan changed all together?

I'm not sure. I'm not going to airbrush the nose art but am going with brush painting instead, it looks closer to the original that way. I should do some of the markings before attaching the upper wing. The box art only shows the dragon's stripes on the orange head but on the actual aircraft they run almost halfway back on the fuselage. That jig helps a lot and I'm looking forward to trying it on a couple other WWI builds.

I seem to remember 30,000 pounds of bananas was a Harry Chapin song. Kit looks to be coming right along, it certainly will be colorful !

Indeed it was and I have driven that hill many times. The song does not cover the whole story well, the driver did everything he could to stop that truck without causing injury. He plowed several cars and multiple front porches in an effort to slow down, did not injure a single bystander but when the truck ended up in the river at the bottom of the hill the load came through the cab and, well .... there was 30000 pounds of smashed bananas and one truck driver.

A little more progress on this build today. I now have the upper wing attached. The upper set of struts around the engine mounts were totally wrong for the aircraft in scale and length so I elected to make new struts from some Aeroclub strut stock. This is where the jig comes in real handy. With the model secure in the jig I can flip it upside down with total confidence and maneuver the the kit without touching it at all. Made strut measuring and installation a piece of cake. I have a little touch-up on the white to do then can finish rigging it.

The jig is from Aeroclub. This is the second generation unit here but I believe he has already taken it a step or two beyond this in the last year. Not a cheap little tool and requires assembly so is kind of like another whole model. Makes building bi-planes a lot easier though.
