Am I mistaken that the Staggered waistgun was modeled on the G kit? Was there a release that had staggered positions? I ask because I though I built one so many dozens of years ago. Shocked

The Pro Modeler version had staggered windows. I marked the wrong side on this one but did not cut before discovering the mistake.

The pro modeller kit does not have staggered waist windows, I just looked at mine before I posted to make sure. I've got another pro mod kit coming in th next few days, I'll check her as well. But that deffinitly does not have staggered waist.

Matt!!! I'm disapointed in you! How can you post so few pics as a teaser of this conversion!? I need more!!! Gotta ask, what all comes in the conversion kit? Extra guns for the waist, chin turret seeing as you say this kit is for the revell F kit? Some B-40's had staggered waist, some didnt, I think the same goes for bulged cheeks, vega did some things differant.

B-17 Guy,

You can find some details on the "goodies" Matt is planning to work with here: http://www.swannysmodels.com/YB40.html

I'm not very far into this build at all yet and am still fine tuning some details. You're right about the cheek windows - I'll have to work those over and may have to reduce the size of the waist windows to remain accurate. I't not clear what different gun packages different aircraft carried so some creative freedom there. I did see a picture of a chin turret that had 6 50 cal.s in it and want to recreate that. I was also going to upgrade the stinger to 40mm which is entirely possible on these aircraft. Right now all I've done is cut out the top section, one crew door and started looking at the replacement long nose glazing. Since it is made for the Revell kit I will need to narrow the Monogram fuselage nose about 3 or 4 mm. The more I work on this the more I regret switching to the G fuselage as my base.

The first attempt at this build was aborted. The more I got into the details the more the G kit would not work for me. The windows were too large, the fit of the new fuselage section was bad as it was made for the F kit, the nose window arraignment was not going to work for the gunship version and the long nose glazing would not fit the G fuselage without narrowing the kit fuselage. I had already cut the top of the fuselage on the G kit but no matter, one half will be replaced in a later build with a clear fuselage half and the other can be repaired as I cut things carefully and saved the pieces. So now I am starting over with an old F kit. When I say old I mean OLD. This is something I picked up from Evil-Bay for a ten spot that someone else had started. They had assembled the fuselage and brush painted it with gobs of silver and lime green paint. I froze the fuselage, broke the glue joints (all orange tube Testors glue), did an inventory to confirm all parts present and accounted for then stripped the paint with Chameleon paint stripper (great stuff). So that's the history up to this point, the pictures that follow should be pretty self explanatory.

It looks like you've gotten yourself into quite a project.

If I can nit pick a little Roll Eyes
How about using a color other than black when you put text near the kit.  That's kind of hard to see.  The arrow color in the last pic would work well, I think.
