The new Encore 1/32 Albatros D.II

Just picked this up, and it is a bargain at US$79 when you look at the aftermarket stuff that's in there - the Boelke figure is very good and I suspect a good painter will get a realistic figure of the man.  The resin engine is great, but I have to say given that so much of it is buried in the fuselage it might be better to use the kit engine in the model and do the resin engine separately to display.

I had a fortunate accident awhile back, in which the junior feline managed to knock down my Roden Albatros D.III (OAW) and break the landing gear.  I contacted Roden and they were very nice to send replacement parts (they have really excellent service, though a bit slow from Ukraine). They sent the whole parts tree the gear was on, which meant it included the cabane struts for the D.III.  Since it so happens I have the Roden D.I kit, this means I can shorten the interplane struts on that kit and do the MvR D.II, which had the "ear" radiators, using the D.I kit and the extra decals from the D.II.  This is perfect, since the Roden D.H.2 with Lanoe Hawker's markings is coming the end of the month.

Yes, the Roden Albatri are "fiddly" when it comes to the engine and mounts, but if you build the engine, then mount everything to it, let it set up, then install all that in the fuselage, it becomes far less fiddly.

If you get the Encore kit at full price or at a discount, it's a bargain either way for what all's in the box.

I built this kit last year, 2010, and thoroughly enjoyed the build.  The fit was good, the resin engine fit with minor adjustments.  I am not a figure painter so I left the figure alone.  Yes, lots of PE and the resin make it a bargain.  You can even get it for less from Roll Models.

No worries.  Sometimes we just miss the time hack on these posts.
